Relatively small and slender Epiplatys-like fish with a triangular caudal fin having short extensions to the upper and lower corners. Dorsal fin rays 10–12, anal fin 15–16 rays, D/A=1/7-9 Scales in longitudinal series, 28–29(+2).
Maximum size: male 40 mm TL, female 35 mm TL.
Coloration: males, brown to purple-brown with a gol¬den yellow irides¬cence on and the dorsum and upper flanks. A wide dark brown to black band is present on the lower part of the, extending from the snout to the caudal peduncle. Golden or light green iridescent spots may be present on this band. Posteriorly on the flanks short cross-bars may extend from the band upwards onto the back. A second, narro¬wer and often barely visible, red band extends from the eye to the upper part of the caudal peduncle. Dorsal fin red-brown to wine red with a large number of pale green to silver spots. Anal fin brown to wine red, lighter at the base, with small silver spots and a dark brown to dark red margin. Caudal fin wine red with light blue iridescent spots and stri¬pes and the short fin extensions that are usually pale blue. Pectoral fins orange. Females, similar in colour as males but duller overall and lacking the spotted pattern on the unpaired fins.
